Interview Content
brokenstrings: Could you please briefly introduce yourself?
outrun: Alright so I’m outrun I like making unique games and creations, I like biology -mainly bugs but I’m interested in other areas too and I have autism (I hate microbiology )
brokenstrings: Oh, as a software developer, I really dislike bugs 😄. When did you first hear about Gandi IDE?
outrun: I remember vision(one of official team members) told me about it in dms about a year ago after I was advertising bbrp in a server and I kinda just stayed there
brokenstrings: How long have you been using Scratch?
outrun: I’m not really sure I would say 3 years but idk, I’ve been using Gandi IDE for a year now though
brokenstrings: Why did you choose Gandi IDE for your creations instead of sticking with Original Scratch?
outrun: Gandi offered a lot of useful extensions mainly but it also had a lot of good members (and Kasairo)
brokenstrings: It seems like you've made a lot of good friends in the community, that's awesome! The Scratch Community is significantly larger compared to Cocrea. Are you concerned that your works might not receive enough exposure on Cocrea?
outrun: On scratch I hardly got any views I think the most was 60 on a old game called grab, on Gandi it’s a smaller community but with how games get advertised people can actually see your games more
brokenstrings: Yes, additionally, the official team doesn't intervene too much in the display of homepage projects. We also support new creators. What do you find most appealing about Gandi IDE?
outrun: I would say the jams I know that they are not always amazing but it’s fun entering one, they also help people see your games and act as a way to advertise them, I think because of the jams people actually saw my games and thats how I became known on Gandi.
brokenstrings: Yes, in the Scratch Game Jam, many outstanding creators emerged, giving birth to a lot of fantastic creations. I remember your game Devil Corp won second place in the third SGJ, and I really enjoyed playing it. I noticed that although you haven't created many projects, the quality is exceptionally high, Besides Devil Corp, there are also ብዕʋ𐒔𐒔𐒅 𐌐൬ and TOCG. What was the biggest challenge you faced during the creation process? How did you overcome it?
outrun: I’m not sure tbh I don’t really struggle making games like them too but when it comes to games with movement, tile maps or colliders and stuff it gets more complicated mainly with optimisation. brokenstrings: Our efforts will make Gandi IDE more capable of facilitating these aspects. Have you been inspired by other creators or specific projects in your own project? If so, could you provide some examples?
outrun: I don’t think I’ve been inspired much by other projects I mainly get inspired by other games and physical board/card games, normally I mix two things together like ceramic is a mix of inscription and chess, TOCG is a deckbuilding uno, devil corp is based on Pikmin but like drastically changed and tempo labs is based on portal and the entropy center, the only one that is not based on something really is lassassin other then the cooking mechanic being taken from potion crafter
brokenstrings: How do you feel about the community support and resources provided by the platform? Any suggestions for improvement?
outrun: Personally it’s been really good the extensions and people are quite helpful and the team members help get corrupted projects back (like you).
brokenstrings: What do you believe is the importance of networking and collaboration within the community? Have you had any experiences with this?
outrun: I’ve worked with the community a few times to make a game, the only one out at the moment is tocg and that became quite popular, I tried making a game with drakesayshi for the 13th jam but we ran out of time but we may continue it, also I was making a tower defence with chili_chil but it’s not really had much progress, there is another game I’m making with someone too that I’m not spoiling too much of but im probably going to release it when I get subs on YouTube as a special.
brokenstrings: What are your plans for the future? Do you aspire to become an independent game developer or a software engineer?
outrun: I’m not really sure k would like to make games obviously but I don’t have many plans
brokenstrings: I'm curious about your nickname and avatar in the community. Could you explain their meanings?
outrun: Oh it’s actually just a randomly generated Xbox name that i kept, my profile that I made is also based on a Xbox profile of a orange cobra facing forwards.
brokenstrings: Thank you very much for accepting my interview. Looking forward to the release of your new creations! outrun: I believe the new creations will meet everyone soon!
