Donut Factory Tycoon is a highly popular project within the Cocrea community. It has been featured multiple times on the homepage, attracting many users to play and remix it. We're excited to have the creator of this project, Mythic, as our guest for the eighth edition of the Gandi IDE Creator Spotlight. Let's dive into his creative journey and learn more about his story!
Interview with Mythic
Q1: Could you please introduce yourself?
Mythic: Hi, I'm ItzMythical153, an aspiring coder who hopes to make a mark in the Geometry Dash community! :D
Q2: When did you start learning Scratch programming? What sparked your interest in creating games?
Mythic: I started programming in Scratch around the time the pandemic began. My first game was an Undertale remake. I once had an idea for a game where you chased a coin around a small map, but since I wasn't very skilled at coding back then, I decided to turn it into a simple clicker game. ;D
Q3: Besides making games, do you have any other hobbies or interests?
Mythic: I love playing rhythm games, like Friday Night Funkin' and Geometry Dash. I also enjoy creating and decorating my own levels in these games. :D
Q4: How did you come across Gandi IDE? Why did you choose to create on this platform?
Mythic: I discovered Gandi IDE through a YouTube video I watched a while back. I decided to give it a try and found it much easier to use than Scratch. My first game on Gandi IDE was actually Donut Factory Tycoon, which you might be familiar with. :D
Q5: Did you expect Donut Factory Tycoon to become so popular in the community? What inspired you to create such a game?
Mythic: Honestly, I didn't expect Donut Factory Tycoon to become such a big hit within the community. The inspiration behind it was the money clicker game I mentioned earlier (which was quite terrible, please don't look it up), as well as a simple text engine tutorial by Griffpatch, which inspired me to create something similar to Candy Clicker 2, a popular game on Scratch.
Q6: Clicker games are quite common in the Scratch community. In your opinion, what makes Donut Factory Tycoon successful?
Mythic: Many clicker games are quite similar, mainly involving clicking and buying. I wanted to expand on this idea by adding social features like Clans, and extra rewards such as Ranks and the Spinny Wheel. I believe these unique elements help Donut Factory Tycoon stand out among the many clicker games out there. :D
Q7: I noticed you also created a Clicker Game Template to make it easier for community members to remix. Why did you decide to do this? Aren’t you worried that the attention on Donut Factory Tycoon might be dispersed?
Mythic: After Donut Factory Tycoon started gaining more remixes and the play count seemed to be growing slower, I created the Clicker Game Template to help other aspiring coders start their own clicker games. I felt Donut Factory Tycoon had been in the spotlight for a while, and I wanted to see someone else’s clicker game make it to the top!
Q8: Could you share some of your creative experiences with the community?
Mythic: One significant challenge I faced was dealing with demotivation. I remember attempting to add Clans to Donut Factory Tycoon long before they were implemented, but they ended up as hidden sprites because I didn't know how to implement them or why I was doing it. Eventually, I focused on what I wanted to achieve and pushed through, leading to many of the features I had planned.
Q9: Can you share your upcoming creative plans? What type of game are you planning to release next?
Mythic: Right now, I’m focused on creating utilities like my projects VibeVault (inspired by Scratchify) and a Future Demonlist for Geometry Dash. However, I do plan to make a new game that’s fresh and new for me, though I’m not sure what it will be yet.
